Re-Entry and Networking Meeting
We organized a ” Re-entry and Networking” meeting on February 9, 2018 in İstanbul for our Turkish alumni who completed their programs in the U.S.A. and returned to Turkey recently.
In this year’s meeting we organized a panel for our alumni on academic life, business life and social/non-govermental work in Turkey. The three panelists were also alumni of different Fulbright Programs: Assistant Prof. Fırat Sarsar, Fulbright PhD Program alumnus – Ege University Faculty of Education Assistant Dean, Attorney Ece Başaran Küçük, Fulbright Master’s Program alumna and Ms. Evin Taş, Humphrey Program alumna. All three panelists talked about their own career paths and provided information about the sectors they are working in.
Apart from this panel, Dr. Ümit Yazman, who is our Humphrey Program alumnus, gave a speech on the re-entry period, reverse culture shock and how best to overcome this period.
At the end of the meeting, our Executive Director Prof. Ersel Aydınlı and U.S. Consul General Jennifer L. Davis hosted a reception. Among the guests were the chairman and members of our Commission Board, Turkish and American alumni and current American grantees in İstanbul. This reception enabled our alumni and current grantees to get to know each other. Prof. Dr. Nermin Abadan Unat, one of the second group of Fulbright PhD Program alumni also participated in this reception and gave a speech on the importance of the Fulbright scholarships and her academic work upon her return to Turkey.
