Pre-Departure Orientation Seminars
You probably have seen many movies filmed in the U.S. or maybe have been there for touristic purposes, but now you have the opportunity to start living there and we are pretty sure you are excited about this adventure. After going through the stressful and exhausting process of applying, we would like to congratulate you on this last step before your departure to the U.S.A. Now, all that is left is to complete your pre-departure preparations and start your new adventure.
The Advising Unit of our Commission is ready to help you with any issues prior to your departure for the U.S.A. First of all, we would like to advise you to attend our “Pre-departure Orientation” seminars. These seminars take place at our Commission’s Ankara Head Office and the İstanbul Branch Office. The dates of these seminars are on listed on our calendar.
In these seminars, we will cover important topics such as how to make a visa application, how to fill out the medical forms for your school, packing your suitcase, opening a bank account in the U.S.A., and how to rent a house or apartment. There is also time set aside during the seminar to answer your questions.
One of the most interesting sections of our seminar is entitled “Culture Shock”. Culture shock is a natural process for anyone who chooses to live abroad for an extended period of time. Therefore this section of the seminar is very useful for departing students.
We also invite many Fulbright alumni and other advisees who have returned from the U.S.A. to our pre-departure seminars so that they can share their experience in overcoming culture shock and adapting to a new environment.
